Warning services: We give flood and storm surge warnings!
Lower Saxony’s flood forecast centre is located at NLWKN in Hildesheim: This is where flood forecasts are prepared.
The supra-regional flood warning service is based in Hanover: The staff of the NLWKN and the Water and Navigation Directorate for the Central Area monitor the Weser, Aller and Leine and their tributaries. In emergency they provide local authorities and institutions with full and rapid information.
This also applies to the team of the NLWKN’s supra-regional storm surge warning service, based in Norden: They keep coastal water levels under constant observation and inform those concerned. This is a service provided by the NLWKN: The legal mandate to provide storm surge warnings rests with the Federal Institution for Navigation and Hydrography.
The water levels registered by the eight coastal tide gauges and the 50 measuring stations along rivers like the Leine, Aller, Hunte, Hase or Jeetzel are available on the Internet at all times.
