Approval authority: We offer certainty for planning

The NLWKN as a service provider: In the complex approval procedures (often plan approval procedures) under water law or dyke law, the NLWKN keeps sight of the fact that the companies, associations and local authorities need speedy certainty for their planning – and this planning certainty only exists if the approvals granted by the NLWKN will stand up to scrutiny by the courts. This in turn presupposes that all interests have been carefully weighed up before the decision is taken.

Plan approval procedures are always concerned with important infrastructure projects – these include coastal defence and flood control measures and the development of bodies of water, e.g. dyke or port construction projects.

Permits for discharging industrial wastewater usually involve smaller procedures – which are nevertheless also of great importance.

The goal of NLWKN: To organise our use of water as a resource in a way that achieves a sensible balance of economic, environmental and social interests in the eyes of the general public.
