Land hydrological service: Important basis for decisions
Hydrological data needed as a basis for water resource planning decisions are available from NLWKN. The land hydrological service within NLWKN has a wide-ranging statutory mandate: It is to determine, assess and document the overall hydrological picture of the rivers, streams, lakes and groundwater, and any ecological changes.
The basis for this work is the Lower Saxony Water Monitoring System (GÜN). For example, there is a measuring network of 1500 measuring stations for determining the level of the groundwater.
The GÜN supplies data on the quantity and quality of rainfall, groundwater and surface waters. The monitoring system is continuously adapted to scientific advances and current water management requirements, and possesses study findings going back many years, which can be seen in a state-wide database on the Internet.
